Serralves em Festa! (01)

E vocês, aproveitaram a Festa?

Last weekend was time for Serralves em Festa!
This is an unique anual event in one of the most beautiful places in Porto that I don't usually miss and this time I was on the "other side" of the party, at the Urban Craft Fair, at Alameda dos Castanheiros, in front of Casa de Serralves.

If it wasn't for the rain that didn't abandon us during Saturday afternoon, this would have been one big party from start to finish... still we didn't falter and after hanging some plastic cover upon our stalls, saving all the works from the flood and drying them while doing the countdown to the (thankfully few) casualties... we returned on Sunday for a day of celebration - this time in full!

Serralves was full of activities and people and it was a pleasure to receive so many new and familiar faces - some people I hadn't seen in years! - and others that were only virtual, and now gained real contours. I loved being able to know personally creators whose work I've been following and admiring for so long! And this was probably the best gift of the event - only this good time and good weather felt throughout Sunday could compensate the rain of the previous day.

There's more next year!

  1. Congratulations, Ana, that you made it into the IKEA-catalogue!
But tell me, where and what is Serralves? Building and park look great and very interesting to me.
    Kind regards

    1. Thank you! I'm really happy about IKEA Live magazine :)

Serralves is an art foundation here in Porto, Portugal, situated between Boavista area and the sea.
It's both a beautiful big garden and an architectural must: you have the House of Serralves - designed in art deco style by the important portuguese architect of the beginning of the 20th century, Marques da Silva - and the contemporary art museum - a great building designed by Siza, open since 1999 - with some nice temporary art exhibitions.
If you come to visit Porto someday this is a place you shouldn't miss!

You can find more about it at wikipedia:

  2. Thank you for your informations about Serralves, Ana! I will certainly visit the place if I'll have an opportunity to come to Porto once again. But for the time being I am situated at the opposite end of Europe, in Helsinki, where there is so much to see in the fields of architecture and design that the city has been designated as the "World Design Capital" for this and the following year.
